This beautiful and unique jewellery is hand made in Cumbria, using both the highest quality new materials available and recycled scrap.  I also rescue old and unused silver articles and refashion them into fun jewellery. Everything is made with the greatest of care and pride.

THE SILVER BLACKSMITH

Welcome to The Silver Blacksmith Website!

Located in an 18th Century Blacksmith's Shop in the remote borderland of Cumbria, The Silver Blacksmith creates unique and beautiful precious metal jewellery to suit a wide range of tastes.  Most of the jewellery is made from new or recycled silver, but I also use new and recycled gold, copper, brass and titanium. Many different methods of manufacture are used including simple wirework, forging and casting.

A wide range of precious and semi precious stones and beads are used alongside handmade fused glass and sea glass.

MEET ME

THE SILVER BLACKSMITH - Sue Bailey
I began my journey in silversmithing 12 years ago when I attended several silversmithing courses.  I got hooked on the beauty of the metals and developed a passion for working with these wonderful materials.  I come from an engineering background and it was a joy to use my skills to make lovely jewellery.  I usually handcraft one off pieces of solid silver or gold jewellery.  I also make a range of fun jewellery so that there is something for everyone and these could be in silver, copper, brass or titanium. I make more than one of these for different sizes, but there is always a difference, so each piece is truly unique.   My jewellery tends to be very precise and engineered, but I occasionally manage to go free form and produce a wonderfully artistic piece!
HALLMARKING
I strictly conform to the hallmarking laws and everything I make that is over the minimum weight is hallmarked.  I also hallmark special items that are lower in weight.  This is your absolute guarantee that what you are getting is what you expect.

I am registered at Birmingham Assay Office with the sponsor mark of SB and registration no of 15373.
The United Kingdom has very strict laws governing the sale of articles made of precious metals. Any article over a certain weight must be assayed by one of the 4 British Assay Offices where if it meets the required fineness (purity), it will be stamped with the Fineness mark, the Assay office mark, and the sponsor (makers) mark. This is a buyer’s absolute guarantee that the article is made of a particular fineness of precious metal.

Articles made of second hand precious metal that are already hallmarked must be hallmarked,or certificated, again to reconfirm the purity of the metal.

PRECIOUS METALS

Currently articles above the following minimum weights must by law be hallmarked:

Silver - 7.78 g
Gold - 1g
Platinum – 0.5g
Palladium – 1 g

Any article of any weight can be hallmarked, but items exceeding the above weights must be hallmarked.
